Digits appearing before the decimal point in the key number printed on each General Description Sheet indicate the section of this binder in which the pages should be filed. For convenience these various sections have been cross indexed: On Index Page 2 .. Sets are classified and indexed by TELETYPE MODEL NUMBER. Index Pages 3, 4 and 5 Contain a complete NUMERICAL GUIDE both of Sectional Headings and the published General Description Sheets. Omission of the title of a numbered section in the index indicates the information is not yet scheduled for release. Immediately following the Index Pages you will find supplementary sheets covering Keytops and Type Arrangements. From time to time other supplementary material relating to equipment will be prepared for filing in this portion of the booklet. Revised General Index Pages, \ and filing instructions will accompany the supplementary material you will receive for filing as additional General Description Sheets are published for inclusion in the TELETYPE EQUIPMENT LIST. Generally, messages to be transmitted are prepared on the keyboard perforator and transmitted by the transmitter distributor. Transmission also may be accomplished through direct keyboard operation. This provides additional flexibility inasmuch as the automatic tape transmission may be interrupted to inject brief keyboard messages without removing the tape from the transmitter. Incoming messages are recorded in printed page form on the Model 15 sending-receiving page printer. This set when used on a full-duplex circuit will send and receive messages simultaneously. (2) Perforation of tape for subsequent transmission. (3) Automatic transmission of printing telegraph messages under control of perforated tape. The perforator transmitter keyboard which serves for direct sending may also be operated independently (whether or not an incoming message is being received) as a high speed perforator in the preparation of tape for subsequent transmission. Or if desired, tape may be perforated simultaneously with direct transmission. Incoming messages are received in printed page form on either continuous roll or multifold paper. (2) To check the responses of relays or start-stop regenerative repeaters in a local circuit. (3) Under certain conditions, to check the efficiency of Teletype circU1ts and line equipment by measuring accurately the impulse length of printing telegraph signals originating from an external transmitting unit. Either normal or distorted signals or a test message may be transmitted by this instrument by positioning various keys mounted on the panel. Other controls provide convenient adjustment ior any desired type or percentage of signal distortion. A built-in stroboscope permits signals to be checked visually against a graduated scale. The size of the unit is such that it may be set on a shelf, movable bench or a table. These signals may be a repetition of Teletype signal combinations or telegraph reversals. Combinations to be transmitted are set up by positioning a group of keys and switches mounted on the panel. The transmitted signals may be normal (undistorted) or they may be con- . trolled to have 20"/0 bias or end distortion, either marking or spacing. This instr.ument w~· designed to meet the demand for a portable test distributor for limited duty and (ntermittent use only. For heavy d uty applications, or for more diversified test facilities the 'P"eletype Stroboscopic Test Set is recom mended.
